Community service matters

Student serving at blood drive event

Giving back to our community is a value we hope to instill in each student who is part of Albany High School. Not only does community service make our world a better place to live in, it also helps solidify strong leadership skills and cultivates empathy, responsibility and interconnection in the lives of our students.

In past years, we utilized the Passport for Good platform to support students in tracking their community service hours. To better serve our students and families, we have transitioned to a platform called SchooLinks, which now serves as a hub for important information, such as:

  • Scholarship opportunities
  • Logging information for internships
  • Recording volunteer hours through school clubs and enrichment activities, as well as through groups or organizations in the community

For our students, we know it is vital to keep accurate and thorough records on their volunteer hours so they have these important details accessible when it is time to apply for college and/or jobs. Students can access their SchooLinks account by and they can log in using their Google credentials.

Students have been provided this which explains the process for entering in volunteer hours for approval.

Additionally, students will wear cords at graduation to honor and celebrate their community service.

  • Bronze cords signify two to 50 hours of community service.
  • Silver cords signify 51 to 100 hours of community service.
  • Gold cords signify 101 or more hours of community service.

All hours previously logged in the Passport for Good platform have been transitioned over to the . Students should no longer utilize Passport for Good for logging volunteer hours. If a student notices a discrepancy in their hours, they can reach out to Citizenship Principal Ms. Emily Lawyer (elawyer@albany.k12.ny.us) or their guidance counselor for assistance.

We are proud of all the ways our Albany High students are serving their school community, the city of Albany and beyond!
