Omega Psi Phi Fraternity recognizes Pine Hills principal

Pine Hills Elementary School Principal Tia Corniel will be among the honorees when Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Nu Tau Chapter celebrates Women’s History Month with its Women of Color Virtual Awards Ceremony on Saturday at 7 p.m. City School District of Albany Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams will serve as the host of the event. 

Corniel, who has served as the Pine Hills Elementary principal since October 2018, is among eight individuals that Omega Psi Phi will recognize in Saturday evening’s event. The event will be (meeting ID: 880 064 3604 and passcode: AAKODSZSI). 

Corniel has served district students and families since the 2017-18 school year, when she began her role as an assistant principal at Edmund J. O’Neal Middle School of Excellence. Her previous education experience in Albany includes roles as a Biology teacher and academic dean at Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls, and as principal at Brighter Choice Charter School for Girls. 

At Pine Hills Elementary, Corniel has worked to actualize equity within the school community in line with the school’s mission to have students “Learn, Lead and Change the World.” Equity is central to the work of Pine Hills Elementary and all districts schools to help ensure that all students have a voice in the classroom.  

Corniel’s most recent efforts have focused on ensuring that students and families feel supported during the COVID-19 global health crisis. Under her leadership, the school has been recognized for its innovative practices in communication during COVID-19.

Omega Psi Phi also is celebrating Women’s History Month with a virtual conversation with Superintendent Adams on March 17 at 6:30 p.m. This virtual event also will be (meeting ID: 880 064 3604 and passcode: AAKODSZSI).
