‘Tis the season for candy cane science!
On Monday, Giffen Elementary School third-graders used their skills of prediction, observation, communication and classification to conduct three different experiments with candy canes.

They investigated whether candy canes sink or float in water, whether water temperature affects how fast candy canes dissolve and whether the candy cane flavor (peppermint, cherry or blueberry) affects how quickly the candy canes melt.
They also did a taste test and graphed their results.
Science teacher Rebecca Bustelos distributed extra candy canes to every student so they can show off their knowledge to family and friends at home.
