The City School District of Albany was notified Dec. 30-Jan. 2 of 42 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. All individuals who tested positive are quarantining at home. The Albany County Health Department did not identify any additional contacts with any of these new cases.
Eight cases are associated with Montessori Magnet School:
- One case is associated with second grade. The individual was last in the building Dec. 21.
- One case is associated with fifth grade. The individual was last in the building Dec. 21.
- In a third case, the individual was last in the building Dec. 21.
- In four additional cases, the individuals were last in the building Dec. 21.
- In the final case involving Montessori, the individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Seven cases are associated with William S. Hackett Middle School:
- Two cases are associated with sixth grade. One individual was last in the building Dec. 21, and the other on Dec. 17.
- Two cases are associated with eighth grade. Both individuals were last in the building Dec. 21.
- In all three of the other cases, the individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
Five cases are associated with Eagle Point Elementary School:
- Two cases are associated with third grade. One individual was last in the building Dec. 21, the other on Dec. 13.
- One case is associated with kindergarten. This individual was last in the building Dec. 14.
- One case is associated with fourth grade. This individual was last in the building Dec. 14.
- In the final case involving Eagle Point, the individual was last in the building Dec. 21.
Four cases are associated with Albany High School:
- In three cases, the individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
- In the fourth case, the individual was last in the building Nov. 18.
Four cases are associated with Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School:
- One case is associated with eighth grade. This individual was last in the building Dec. 21.
- In the three other cases, the individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
Two cases are associated with Albany School of Humanities (ASH). Both individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
Two cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School. Both individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
Two cases are associated with Pine Hills Elementary School. Both individuals were last in the building Dec. 22.
Two cases are associated with Sheridan Preparatory Academy. One individual was last in the building Dec. 22, the other on Nov. 30.
Another case is associated with Edmund J. O’Neal School of Excellence. This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Another case is associated with fifth grade at Giffen Memorial Elementary School. This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Another case is associated with the district’s offices at Harriet Gibbons Student Services Center. This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Another case is associated with Philip J. Schuyler Achievement Academy and Pine Hills Elementary School. This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Another case also is associated with Schuyler Achievement Academy. This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
The final case is associated with Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST). This individual was last in the building Dec. 22.
Health and safety procedures at all district buildings continue to include cleaning and sanitizing. We will continue with these procedures, and also will continue to follow all required COVID-19 precautions (wearing masks inside all district buildings, hand hygiene, social distancing of 3 feet or more in all classrooms, and other precautions).
We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:
- Maintain social distance at all times from those you don’t live with.
- Always wear a mask that covers both the mouth and nose when inside at school or when your student is riding a bus to or from school.
- Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
- DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:
- Signs of COVID-19 are: fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way.
