The Albany High Theatre Ensemble returns to the stage this month to tackle issues of racism, loss and social unrest in the Promising Playwrights Festival’s upcoming production of “The Day Tomorrow Stopped.”
The play’s three-performance run opens at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, with shows at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 21 and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22. Performances will be held at Capital Repertory Theater, 251 North Pearl St.
Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
"The Day Tomorrow Stopped" takes place 20 years in the future, and a television journalist is interviewing people about their experiences as they dealt with loss from COVID, the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, the attack on the U.S. Capitol and other issues of the day.
The play is a series of monologues where characters recount their experiences. It was written by Albany High students.
Aaron Moore (Albany High Class of 2010) is director, and Camille Dobbs (Albany High Class of 2018) is assistant director.
The play contains strong language and may not be appropriate for very young audiences.
