Thanks to the weather and daylight savings time, the Albany High School girls’ basketball team will have to wait an extra 23 hours to continue its quest for the school’s first state championship in 25 years.
The Falcons’ state quarterfinal playoff game vs. Syracuse-area champion Cicero-North Syracuse has been postponed until 6 p.m. Sunday due to the weather forecast for Saturday. The game will be played Sunday evening at Hudson Valley Community College.
Don’t forget to “spring forward” and set your clocks ahead an hour Sunday morning or you’ll miss the first half!
After winning their first Section 2 Class AA title since 2013, the Falcons (18-6) jumped to No. 15 in this week’s state rankings. Perennial Section 3 power Cicero-North Syracuse (16-5) is ranked No. 11 in the state. The Northstars edged the Falcons on their last trip to the state playoffs nine years ago.
Albany High’s last state championship in girls’ basketball – and the school’s only team state title in any sport – came in 1997.
