Superintendent leads class for police recruits

Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams donned her teaching hat Wednesday morning and educated new Albany Police Department recruits about the City School District of Albany.

The training was through APD’s Community Liaison Program, which seeks to build understanding between police officers and the community they serve.

The lesson wasn’t just about facts and figures. Through reflection and conversation, the superintendent and the recruits considered perception and perspective. They also discussed how influences from home, school, the community and social media shape the identities of students, and that these influences affect student behavior and reactions to situations.

The class took place at the Albany Police Academy on Washington Avenue Extension.
