Albany High School student-athletes are cleared to begin practice for basketball, cheerleading and hockey immediately after the City School District of Albany Board of Education approved the start of high-risk sports at a special meeting Tuesday.

The board unanimously approved those winter sports to move forward, along with the high-risk sports of boys’ lacrosse, football and volleyball, which begin later in the school year.

On Monday, Albany County approved school districts to move ahead with sports that the state has deemed higher risk due to COVID-19. The board’s action was the final step needed before official practices for high-risk winter sports could begin.

Online registration is available through . Two additional forms also are required -- one that must be completed by parents and guardians, and one that must be completed by a healthcare provider. Both forms must be turned in before a student-athlete can begin practice in a high-risk sport.
